There are a lot of free online resources to improve your English. I’ve taken advantage of many them and I’ve improved my English with many of them. I love searching on the internet. When I started learning English, I spent so much time to find these resources and it took me so much time to do that, but I really enjoyed it too. I want to share all of the resources that I know whether I use them or not. I’ll explain the ones that I’ve been using. I think everyone has their own unique style of learning. What matters is finding that and once you found it, there is nothing that can stop you.
Youtube Channels
Since the beginning, youtube has been the best English learning platform for me. There are a lot of amazing channels and teachers who have incredible videos. They are:
- Learn English With TV Series
I love this channel so much because you can learn a lot of new words from movies or tv series’ scenes. I can remember them easily when I see them in the context. Whenever I need to use that vocabulary, I remember that scene. So this channel definitely works for me. They’re so much fun as well. I don’t get bored when I watch them. Plus I can learn great pronunciation tips and connected speech from these videos.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RKySLKgJzc

- mmmEnglish
The channel of the most incredible and caring teacher that I’ve ever known. There is everything in her channel. Grammar, vocabulary, ways to learn English, how to be fluent, pronunciation and many other things.
It’s hard to choose, but my favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCkONOv2JJM&t=316s

- Speak English With Vanessa
Vanessa’s helped me a lot during this journey. This channel was the most important listening resource for me when I was beginner and pre-intermediate. When you’re in those levels, it’s really hard to find something fun and slow. Vanessa speaks very clearly. That’s why it’s really easy to understand her. I love her videos with her husband. They teach new vocabulary and they’re definitely great listening practise. She also has a lot of wonderful tips about how to learn English. She plays a significant role in my journey finding my way of learning. One of the first things that I did when I started to learn English was reading her e-book.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bnGW-bY_OU

- To Fluency
I found Jack’s channel at the same time when I found Vanessa’s channel. So same things are valid for this channel too. I learned a lot of learning tips from Jack. He also plays an important role in changing my mindset about learning English. His book is full of amazing tips.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsqiEvLtqr8

- Real English With Real Teachers
I think this channel is where you can learn English and have fun at the same time. I always laugh a lot when I watch their videos. In my case, understanding British accent is harder than understanding American accent. So it’s a great practice to listen their accent.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlamyXtkoaI

- Learn English with Papa Teach Me
I love this channel so much. I wish we could clone Aly and hand out everywhere in the world. His videos cracks me up. I enjoy watching his videos.
My favorite videos from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxWeWbrzqA8

- English with Lucy
Another great channel to learn new words, British accent and learning tips. She has really nice methods and this is one of the channels that keeps me motivated.

- Eat Sleep Dream English
Tom’s full of incredible ideas. I never get bored watching his videos. I think it’s a great resource to learn modern British English and pronunciation. In addition, for someone like me who don’t like to learn English from boring materials, his channel is really fun and helpful.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20L0v_Xm9JE

- engVid: Learn English
The best place to learn grammar from native English teachers.

-Learn English with Emma [engVid]
She’s one of my favorite teachers from engVid.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5sOGbY3-1Y

- BBC learning English
I think this channel is perfect when you don’t have so much time. The videos are short and really useful. I usually listen them on my way to somewhere. They cover a lot of topics in the channel. It’s easy to learn many vocabulary about different topics. I learned many things from this channel. It’s a great listening practice as well.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Engjh-aEevc

- TED
Ted talks are really amazing for listening skills, but they also help you to learn a lot other than English. They usually have subtitles in many languages. I prefer to watch them without subtitles at first and then when I don’t understand something, I turn on the English subtitles and if I still don’t understand the sentence after looking up the words, I turn on Turkish subtitles if they’re available.
My favorite videos from this channel - I’m moved to tears when watching this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzkFoetp-_M&list=PL85ghnBsGX7cwdlbC8vPKlU53x74n3Ks1&index=3&t=0s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vZXgApsPCQ&list=PL85ghnBsGX7cwdlbC8vPKlU53x74n3Ks1&index=7&t=340sEvery language learner should watch this ted talk - The secrets of learning a new language | Lýdia Machová - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_XVt5rdpFY&index=20&list=PL85ghnBsGX7cwdlbC8vPKlU53x74n3Ks1&t=0s

- TED-Ed
This is a perfect channel for someone who likes learning new things. The videos are short, but a little bit more advanced in my opinion. There are so many advanced vocabulary and sometimes speakers are fast. So I think it’s a great place to learn advanced vocabulary and more specific words.
My favorite video from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOLmD_WVY-E

- SoulPancake
This channel is where you listen to very short videos by native English speakers and this isn’t an English learning channel. Their speaking is at normal pace and since the videos are short, you can spend more time to understand them and study them. In my opinion, these videos are really useful because some of them have subtitles and I can watch them without subtitles at first and then watch it again with subtitles. So I can recognize what I understand or what I don’t. Some of the content is really interesting for me, so I enjoy studying some of these videos.
My favorite videos from this channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DktGSzhZhaw&index=15&list=PLzvRx_johoA8edvPQ8-XgXfsoRsC5-oOD

Websites
- Etkili Pratik İngilizce (Turkish)
He has amazing tips to improve your English. Like I said when I was explaining his channel, his tips made me start to learn English.

- Voscreen
Incredible website to learn English. They also have an app and so it makes everything easier. They have clips from movies, tv series or videos. They’re like around from 10 seconds to 30 seconds and you watch it without subtitles and then after the video finishes, you can either choose to see the subtitles or not and you try to comprehend what they say in the clip. I used to answer it in Turkish when I was beginner, but then I changed it to English. So I’m trying to answer it in English in a different way. They also have options for every level in English. Plus you can also choose the videos depending on grammar subjects. For example; if you want to practise prepositions, you can choose to see the videos with prepositions.

- Deep English
This is a website that’s suggested by Burak Öztürk. They have short sound clips and you have an option to listen them slow, normal and fast. These clips have transcripts and vocabulary quizzes. I find them really useful too.

- Busy teacher
This is a perfect website for both learners and teachers. It’s full of worksheets and lesson materials.

- British Council
A website that you can read stories and articles depending your English level.

- Conversation questions
These two websites are perfect for speaking. There are a great amount of questions and topics. You can either speak on your own or find a speaking partner and talk about the topic that you like the most. I used this website a lot in Emma’s free group. (Ladies who love to speak English)

- Busuu
A good website to learn some basics. I think this is really good when you start to learn English.

- Duolingo
Nice website and app for very beginners.

- Lingualeo
This website is full of videos and articles. You can save the vocabulary that you learn from the videos and repeat them afterwards. Every level is available too.

- Forvo
Great website to learn pronunciation. I used this website a lot to learn the pronunciation of the words that I learned. Native speakers record their voices with that word. It’s like a dictionary but for pronunciation.

- Youglish
I love this website so much. It’s a website where you can look for the words in youtube videos. Whenever I learn a new word, I check the contents that include that word and practise that word.

- Macmillan Dictionary
- Longman
- Merriam Webster

The last but not least…
- Ladies who love to speak English
This facebook group is the heart of my English journey. I’ve improved my speaking in this group and what makes me love and enjoy this journey. I talk about it in details in my English journey, but I’ll try to summarize here. I’ve been in this group for more than 2 years now and obviously many things changed in the group, but I think it’s still so useful. You can definitely take advantage of the group as much as I did. You can find amazing friends from all over the world here. My advice about this group is, like Emma said, don’t be just like “give me, give me”, but also try to contribute to the group and other people. I think this is the only way that you can benefit from it. Everyone in this group is learning English, so almost all of them will understand you. I recommend you to observe and try to be active in the group and connect with people. Just send them a message saying “hi” and introduce yourself. Then you can choose a topic from the website that I shared and talk about it maybe regularly. You can either have a voice call or video call or none of them. When I was beginner, I was practising by writing and sending voice messages. But never wait for the perfect moment to speak because it’ll never come. It’s all about stepping outside your comfort zone. I’d remind myself that other ladies were also learners and understand me very well.

- The Ladies’ Project
I talk about The Ladies’ project more in my English journey. This is the most incredible and unique place for me. I cherish it a lot. No words can describe it. It’s such a strong community, just like a family. This is where I’ve been improving my English faster. Both of them belong to Emma. In other group, my journey was from beginner to intermediate. In TLP, it’s from intermediate to advanced and I believe I’ve come a long way with it. Not only did I improve my English, but also my personality, knowledge about everything. Simply my mindset has changed. Emma takes you on a tour here. Join that tour and you’ll have a better idea of it. 💙
